What happens when you combine hands-on learning, community partnerships, creative activities, and a little summer fun? You get Good Kidizens.

Presented by Howard Hughes and produced by VVS Events + Marketing, the Good Kidizens series brought families together at Color Burst Park in the Merriweather District for six themed Saturday mornings throughout the summer.

Designed for children ages 2 to 8, the series created opportunities for kids to learn, explore, create, and connect—all while giving families a reason to spend time together in the heart of the Merriweather District.

Six Saturdays. Six Ways to Learn and Play.

Each Good Kidizens event featured a new theme, giving families something different to discover throughout the series.

Kindness in Action

The series kicked off by putting kindness front and center. Families participated in Kindness Clip decorating and enjoyed storytime with the Howard County Library, giving kids a fun, hands-on way to explore what it means to be kind.

Water Safety Day

Summer and water go hand in hand, making water safety an important part of the series. Goldfish Swim School helped bring the topic to life with an engaging presentation and a fun float-vs.-sink experiment.

Little Aggies

Kids got a taste of hands-on learning through the University of Maryland Extension's 4-H program, along with a creative Farmer's Market bag decorating activity.

Healthy Habits

The focus shifted to wellness with a YogaSix mini class and a "Build My Healthy Plate" craft—turning healthy habits into something kids could see, create, and enjoy.

Community Heroes

Local heroes took center stage with fire truck and police vehicle showcases, meet-and-greets with local departments, and special guest appearances. It was an opportunity for kids to see the people behind the uniforms and connect with the community around them.

Storybook Adventures

The series wrapped with a celebration of stories and imagination through live bilingual storytime and book-themed crafts, bringing the summer to a fitting close.

More Than Kids' Activities

While every Saturday had its own theme, the consistent elements helped make Good Kidizens feel like a true series rather than a collection of individual events.

Cool pools gave little ones a place to splash and play, themed giveaways added an extra element of excitement, and a dedicated Guest Services station helped families navigate each event with ease.

Behind the scenes, every date required coordination across community partners, sponsors, vendors, staffing, setup, and guest flow.

That's where the value of a turnkey event partner comes in.

VVS Events + Marketing managed the operational details from one event to the next, creating consistency for families while allowing each week's programming to feel fresh and unique.

Building Meaningful Community Partnerships

One of the strongest elements of Good Kidizens was the network of organizations that helped bring each theme to life.

From Goldfish Swim School and YogaSix to the Howard County Library, University of Maryland Extension's 4-H program, and local fire and police departments, each partner contributed something that made the experience more relevant and engaging for families.

Goldfish Swim School's involvement throughout the series also created consistent sponsor visibility across multiple dates—not simply a one-day brand presence, but an ongoing opportunity to connect with an engaged family audience.

That kind of recurring partnership can turn community programming into a longer-term brand activation.

Creating a Family Destination

Good Kidizens also demonstrates what recurring community programming can do for a property.

When families have a reason to return regularly, the property becomes more than a place to shop, dine, or pass through. It becomes a place where experiences happen and community connections are built.

By focusing each event around themes such as kindness, water safety, healthy habits, community heroes, and literacy, the series created programming that was both entertaining and purposeful.

The result was a summer of experiences that families could look forward to—and a consistent reason to gather at Color Burst Park.

A Summer Well Spent

Six Saturdays. Six themes. Countless crafts, stories, experiments, conversations, and smiles.

Good Kidizens brought together families, community organizations, sponsors, and local partners for a summer series designed to make learning feel like play and community feel like home.

For VVS Events + Marketing, it was another opportunity to show what thoughtful, recurring programming can look like when the creative concept and the operational execution work together.
