All Hands on Deck: Summer Fest Pirate Day Sets Sail at Mount Airy

Ahoy! On July 18, families across Mount Airy traded their weekend plans for a treasure map and a good pair of sea legs. Summer Fest Pirate Day, presented by Rappaport and hosted at Mount Airy Shopping Center, brought together shoppers, tenants, and the local community for an afternoon built entirely around fun, discovery, and connection.

VVS Events & Marketing was proud to design and execute this year's activation from the ground up—proof that a well-run community event can do double duty: delight guests and drive real value for the property.

What Made This Event a Treasure Worth Finding

Every detail of Summer Fest Pirate Day was built to keep foot traffic moving through the center and into participating storefronts.

  • Center-Wide Treasure Hunt: Guests picked up their maps at Guest Services and set off to visit ten participating merchants, including AT&T, Celebree School, Great Clips, and Tropical Smoothie. Each completed map earned a treasure box with a raffle ticket, giving families a reason to walk the entire property—and giving tenants direct face time with new customers.

  • Pirate Booty Raffle: Held three times throughout the day, the raffle kept energy high and guests engaged well past their first activity stop.

  • Foam Party & Dual Slide Bounce House: Two of the day's biggest draws, these high-energy zones kept younger guests entertained for hours.

  • Face Painting & Temporary Tattoo Parlor: Hosted in partnership with Celebree School, this station added a personal, hands-on touch that guests lined up for.

  • Live DJ, Yard Games, Gaming Truck, and Artisan Vendor Market: Rounding out the day, these activations gave guests of every age something to enjoy.

Why It Worked

This event's success came down to one thing: partnership. Ten merchants opted into the scavenger hunt, several donating giveaways and gift cards to sweeten the experience for families. That kind of tenant buy-in doesn't happen by accident—it's the result of clear communication, reliable logistics, and a vendor merchants trust to represent their brand well on event day.

For Rappaport and the Mount Airy Shopping Center team, that translated into a packed shopping center, increased dwell time, and a full day of positive brand exposure—without lifting a finger on execution.
