Last Thursday, the Merriweather District Farmers Market was a perfect example of community strength and spirit. Despite strong winds and scattered rain, the plaza was filled with warmth and energy. From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., more than 200 people came together, proving that a little unpredictable weather is no match for our vibrant community.
A Bustling Marketplace, Rain or Shine
The atmosphere at Merriweather Row Plaza was buzzing with excitement. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces, both new and familiar, exploring the diverse array of vendor booths. The market offered a fantastic selection of local goods that catered to every taste.
Foxleigh Farm provided a beautiful assortment of fresh, local produce, while Cane Collective served up their unique, cane-sweetened mixers, perfect for crafting a cozy drink at home. The delicious aromas from Roggenart Bakery and The Food Market's hot food tent were a welcome comfort on a chilly evening. And who could resist the gourmet cookies from Flour Fable Cookie Co.? As one attendee excitedly shared, "Even with the wind and rain, I knew I had to come out... Plus, its a new month which means a new cookie menu at Flour Fable cookies!"
Shoppers also discovered stunning handcrafted soaps and body butters from Queen's Temple Handmade, beautiful flowers and houseplants from Agripina and Bloom, and lovely lavender products from Fairy Greens. For tea lovers, Dee-lightfully Good offered an impressive selection of tea leaves and accessories. Local spirits from Oversea Distillery were another popular highlight for many.
Music, Community, and Resilience
The event was filled with the fantastic sounds of live music from WestCity, creating an upbeat and cozy atmosphere that made everyone forget about the clouds overhead. We loved seeing so many people sign up for the MWD newsletter and grab a free Merriweather District tote bag.
A special thank you goes to Howard Hughes for providing their employees with Visa gift cards to spend at the market. It was incredible to see so many of their team members brave the weather to support our amazing local vendors and enjoy the day.
The challenging weather brought out the best in our community. When high winds required that tents without sufficient weight be taken down for safety, our vendors showed incredible resilience. Some quickly added more weight, while our Culture Grove team assisted others. When the band had to end their set early to protect their equipment from the rain, the music didn't stop. Several vendors pulled out their own Bluetooth speakers, filling the air with tunes and keeping the positive vibes going.
An attendee perfectly captured the moment: "It's great to see the vendors and the community rally together like this. When the band had to stop, and then you heard music from all different speakers—that was a real testament to the market's spirit!"
Another visitor added, "The atmosphere was still so good, even with the weather. It was a perfect excuse to grab some hot food from The Food Market and then browse the booths. I was so glad I made it out!"
